This Malbec, our third, has more of a classic old-world feel than our previous vintages. The 2008, from Knights Valley, is deep ruby in the glass and has a subtle, but complicated nose of cherry, red fruit, baking spices and earth. Where our previous Malbecs were flamboyant and bright, the 2008 is elegant and austere. The palate hits multiple notes of fruit, with acidic Bing cherry, tart raspberry, and rich cassis as it rolls into an elongated finish that shines with well-integrated oak and big tannin structure, enough to let this
wine age for a decade or more. With the structure and acidity that are hallmarks of the Meeker style, this big Malbec is reminiscent of Cahors at its best.
